- How I feel about this character:
- I really, really, really love Yato, and not just because he’s a super cool god of calamity but because he’s an extremely refreshing character. He’s a shounen “hero” but he’s isn’t confident, book dumb, obsessed with the power of friendship, or on some trite quest for revenge. He’s unsure, dealing seriously with poor self-esteem, doesn’t know how to make close friends, and struggling to grow up against extremely disheartening odds. To me… Yato is a very different kind of “hero”–he’s a hero to every reader who has ever dealt with self-hatred, anxiety, loneliness, or extremely difficult life situations. He’s doing his best and that’s my favorite part of Noragami.
- All the people I ship romantically with this character:
- I only actively ship Yatori, as in that’s the pairing I look for fics/art of… But in terms of headcanons or pairings I wouldn’t mind reading/seeing, I also ship Kazuma/Yato and Yato/Bishamon.
- My non-romantic OTP for this character:
- Yato and Bishamon are my Noragami brotp. I also really, really like the relationship between Yato and Yukine and would not break them up for the world.
- My unpopular opinion about this character:
- ? I don’t know?? I think my opinions about Yato are pretty standard… Ummm… like Father, I also believe that Yato looks better in kimono and he should drop the tracksuit forever?
- One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:
- I wish we could get a “temporarily human” chapter or something, and get to see Yato enjoying the human world like a living person–going to school, meeting Hiyori’s friends, trying other things he normally doesn’t get involved in because he can’t be seen… Also, I’ve mentioned this before, but I really want a “shinki swap” situation so I could see what all the main shinki would become if they were Yato’s. XD
- my OTP:
- Yatori, all day every day.
- my cross over ship:
- I… have never thought of a cross over ship for Yato?? Um… ummm… Is Yato/Tohru Honda from Fruits Basket too weird of a thing to say? I feel like she’s great at helping people process complex feelings. OTL
- a headcanon fact:
- Just one? Okay. Yato isn’t just good at math–he’s good at every school subject. If he were human, he’d be at the top of his class without even trying. Even though he’ll flaunt his knowledge from time to time, he doesn’t fully recognize that his book smarts are completely out of the ordinary, and it doesn’t occur to him that being smart makes him special in any way.
