Hot Take

If you only watch for ships, get out” is the same kind of elitist, condescending behavior utilized by antis to fuel their rhetoric and actively contributes to an increasingly toxic fandom environment, rather than in any way improving it.

You don’t get to tell people how to watch a show or what to watch shows for. Watching a show with the specific hope of seeing romantic relationships isn’t unrealistic in our hyper-sexualized society in which every consumable piece of media exhibits the presence of at least one–if not many–romantic plot lines.

You’re not “better” than other fans because you don’t watch the show for ships. You’re not somehow viewing it “more correctly,” nor do you personally get to decide what the correct lens for watching publicly released media even is.

You’re not that special, Voltron fans, I promise.

Even hotter take: The narrative of Voltron has been so badly derailed and convoluted by inconsistent writing that taking ship-related drama away would leave the fans with literally nothing coherent to talk about anyway.
